Computer Drafting and Design
Degree Program
The Computer Drafting and Design Emphasis of the Associate of Science Degree in Computer Information Science is comprised of a combination of courses in the general education, business, and computer science areas. These courses provide the necessary information to prepare a student for a career as an entry level CAD operator.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupation Outlook Handbook, industrial growth and increasingly complex design problems associated with new products and manufacturing processes will increase the demand for drafting services. Further, drafters are beginning to break out of the traditional drafting role and increasingly do work once solely performed by engineers and architects, thus also increasing demand for drafters.
Today's job market is looking for qualified candidates that display speed, accuracy and knowledge. CAD courses offered at Florida Technical College provides the skills needed in all three requirements to compete in today's job market.
In the Computer Drafting and Design program, graduates will be trained to seek entry level employment in a number of occupations:
FTC offers an avenue for students to create a network with employers and employees already established in the workforce. Field trips and guest speakers bring in the latest information on the current job market and its expectations. The course work at FTC offers a comprehensive look at various CAD and drafting techniques, including architectural, electronic, mechanical and civil drafting and 3-D CAD.
